Norfolk State University’s Ethelyn R. Strong School of Social Work is seeking highly qualified applications for the position of Director of Field Education for the Bachelor of Social Work Program (BSW). The position is a 12-month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor.
The Ethelyn R. Strong School of Social Work offers a full range of Social Work educational programs, including Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited Bachelor and Master degree programs and the Doctoral Ph.D. Program in Social Work. The School serves a diverse population of approximately 600 students in an urban area.
The successful candidate will:
Teach and engage in scholarly activities, and provide service to the profession and community according to University expectations for tenure-track faculty.
Be responsible for oversight of the BSW field education program, which includes developing and implementing field education policies and procedures, developing partnerships with agencies and organizations to establish field internships, screening and arranging for placement of MSW practicum students, and overall supervision of field placements.
Recruit and train field instructors, faculty liaisons and task coordinators.
Work collaboratively with faculty and staff in the School of Social Work and participate in curriculum development, programs and projects to accomplish the School’s missions and goals.

Must possess an earned doctorate in Social Work, or a related field from a regionally accredited university.
Must possess a Masters of Social Work degree from a CSWE accredited program.
Must have a minimum of three years of post-MSW practice experience with skills in micro and/or macro practice, as evidenced by their Curriculum Vitae.
Must meet eligibility requirements for clinical social work licensure.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and convey matters to large diverse audiences (students/staff/faculty).
Considerable experience, equating to three or more years of full-time teaching involvement in core curriculum areas in an accredited School of Social Work at the graduate level.
Considerable experience in social work field education and field supervision in a CSWE accredited program.
Experience providing distance education instruction.
- Experience as Director of Field Education is preferred.
